In Matthew 27:1–10, we see three very different responses to guilt through the stories of Peter, Judas, and the religious leaders. While Peter turns back toward the Lord, Judas tries to undo his past, and the religious leaders focus on protecting their appearances. This passage challenges us to think about how we handle our own sin and reminds us that forgiveness isn’t something we can earn through good deeds or self-punishment. Jesus went to the cross to carry the guilt and shame we could never carry ourselves. Our invitation is to stop hiding, stop trying to fix it on our own, and bring it to Him.
When you experience guilt or recognize sin in your life, what’s your natural response? Do you try to fix it yourself, hide it, or bring it honestly before Jesus and receive His grace?
