This week, we look at Matthew Ch. 11 and the tension between who people expected Jesus to be and who He actually is. As the crowds cry “Hosanna,” longing for rescue, Jesus moves not toward political victory, but toward the cross. It’s a reminder that we often struggle when Jesus doesn’t follow our script.

We center on John the Baptist, a man strong in faith, yet sitting in prison, asking, “Are You the one?” His question comes from real pain and uncertainty, and instead of hiding his doubt, he brings it directly to Jesus. And Jesus doesn’t respond with shame, but with evidence. He points to fulfilled prophecy and the work He’s been doing all along.

From there, Jesus challenges a crowd that stays distant and critical, warning that indifference in the face of truth is dangerous. But the passage doesn’t end there—it ends with an invitation.

“Come to me, all who are weary… and I will give you rest.”
