Overcoming_Temptation_wide_t_nv

In my studies of recent I came across Luke ch. 4 in which we find that Jesus being led by the Spirit from his baptism into the wilderness where he was tempted by Satan for 40 day/nights. There are three truths that I would like to share concerning this story.

1) The enemy may come when we are coming off a mountain top experience

Jesus was just baptized and the Holy Spirit fell upon him at a  panicle moment in our Lord’s life here on earth. The same is true for us that we maybe on the mountain feeling like nothing can shake us. But beware!

1 Cor 10:12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed that he does not fall.

The enemy is looking for every opportunity to make us fall. The question would be are you prepared for battle? Or are you still admiring the view from the mountaintop?

2) The Enemy will look when and where we are most vulnerable to attack

We find that our Lord was at his most vulnerable state: hungry, tired and isolated. The making for anyone to fall. But Jesus:  …who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. (Hebrews 4:15) overcame! Through his example we find hope that in his power we will overcome in our lives.

1 Cor 10:13 13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

3)  Use Jesus’ example to battle the enemy with the Word of God!

Satan came quoting scripture himself but distorted it to accomplish his goal. Despite Satan’s attempt to trump Jesus.  Jesus fired back with the Word of God with all authority and truth unveiling the twisting of scripture and sending the enemy packing only to come at another opportune time. Satan can and will disguise himself as an angel of light, beware of counterfeits. Study, be versed in doctrine and theology so you will not be deceived.
